Take a scuba diving class with Island Divers Hawaii and you will receive the best dive training available on the island of Oahu. Island Divers Hawaii offers instruction that ranges from introduction to diving to Master Scuba Diver.

Island Divers operates a fleet of six diving vessels, all owned by Island Divers, which results in the largest choice of dives for our customers, as well as complete control over boat schedules and destinations. Island Divers advantage: many dive operators on Oahu are a website and a phone number, only booking space on “shared” boats.

All confined water training is conducted in swimming pools: one on Schofield and one in Hawaii Kai, for the comfort and convenience of our customers.

All Island Divers training occurs in the latest scuba equipment, complete with integrated weights and dive computers.

**Please note that for any kind of scuba diving training, the student will first need to be medically cleared. If the student is able to answer “no” to all the questions on the form, they will not require a physician’s signature. A “yes” answer means that the form and packet must be taken to a physician for medical approval before they can engage in any scuba diving activities.

Emergency First Response

emergencyFirstResponse

  • Emergency First Response (EFR) is an innovative CPR/first aid program. Primary Care (CPR) prepares you to render aid to those with life-threatening emergencies. Secondary Care (first aid) builds upon the lessons learned in Primary Care and gives you the knowledge and experience to assist those in need when Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are either delayed or unavailable. A great course for both divers and non-divers, we welcome everyone. The $225 cost includes books.
  • The course incorporates independent study to prepare you for classroom and hands-on skill development sessions with your instructor. Learn the same patient care techniques used by medical professionals on a lay-person level. There are no pre-requisites to this class. Depending on the amount of independent study and the class size, both Primary and Secondary Care courses can be completed in as little as four to six hours.
  • Update: as of 2021 our primary certification agency is SSI and the SSI version of EFR course is called React Right.  Cost is $125.  Since they are extremely similar, we recommend SSI React right for price and instructor availability.

PADI Master Scuba Diver*

* Since 2021 Island Divers Hawaii’s primary certification agency is SSI.  We are no longer promoting the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, though it can be obtained through our instructors that still hold PADI instructor ratings.  The SSI Master Diver rating is actually free upon logging 50 dives and completing 5 specialties included Stress and Rescue.  Read about that here.

Getting certified as a Master Scuba Diver is the highest level one can attain in non-professional recreational diving.masterScubaDiver To obtain this recognition, the diver must obtain five specialty certifications in at least five types of diving. Certain specializations, such as Enriched Air and Wreck Diver, are recommended since they allow the diver to participate in types of diving they are otherwise not certified to participate in. Other specialties, such as Night Diver and UW Photograper, are recommended to gain experience in advanced types of diving, so that the diver raises their skill level and confidence when participating in these underwater activities.

Requirements:

  • Advanced Diver Certification
  • Rescue Diver Certification
  • 50 logged dives
  • Five PADI Dive Specialties

Island Divers Hawaii offer several scuba dive specialties for future masters to choose from. If you want to pursue the Master Scuba Diver rating while on vacation in Oahu, speak with our general manager who will custom fit a program that caters to your schedule, preferences, and budget.

Costs and Prerequisites for a PADI Divemaster Course

  • Private course only available, $2500.  At the professional level, you should really be choosing a shop that meets your professional goals.  Island Divers chose to move forward with SSI as it going to become the leader in dive training in the 21st century.  A majority of the major players in the industry have already switched, just like dive centers in the 70’s and 80’s switched from NAUI to PADI.  With higher training fees, annual dues at twice the price, outdated learning materials, and a 20th century digital platform – PADI is really falling behind in the industry.  It probably doesn’t help that investors are tossing the ownership around like a hot potato.  If you are considering PADI as a professional level beyond Divemaster, you should really do your research.  If you are stopping at Divemaster, it matters less.  There are still plenty of PADI dive centers around, though they are getting harder and harder to find.
  • As an SSI Dive shop Island Divers teaches primarily SSI Divemasters, course cost is $1500.  See details here, and internships are available.

Island Divers is aware that costs for tuition seems higher than most dive centers. However, free unlimited boat diving during your course is the difference between us and the other shops on Oahu. The quality of the program is simply higher at Island Divers, we provide more hands on training with real clients than any other dive center and will assist you in becoming a real, not a “textbook” divemaster. You will be working directly with the real thing, full time professional dive instructors. You will learn how to plan, lead, brief and conduct dive trips, and be able to handle less experienced divers everyday problems without thinking twice by the end of your training. If you want the real thing, here it is. Just come to the shop one day, you’ll see at least 3, and up to 5 dive trips, depart from the shop in a single day. If you really want to be a professional, this is the place to learn. If you just want the paper, sorry, this program is too advanced for you.

Requirements for Divemaster Training

  • Must own a full set of personal dive equipment

How It Works

We provide free boat dives during your training – a significant perk and a smart reason to choose Island Divers Hawaii for your Divemaster training. Our goal is to turn out Divemasters that are fully capable of leading these same dive charters by the end of the course. To that end you will be fully involved in all aspects of learning how to plan, brief, safely execute, and conclude a daily boat charter.

Specialty Courses*

*As Island Divers Hawaii has fewer and fewer PADI Instructors on staff, the availability of PADI specialties has become limited.  Click here for a list of SSI Specialties offered.

However, we are in the customer service business!  If you want a PADI specialty and plan it in advance, chances are we can organize it for you.  The prices below do not reflect PADI digital learning material.

Here’s an FYI for you.  If you want to switch to SSI (we did) you can take your PADI  Certifications and Specialties with you.  SSI will recognize two PADI Specialties toward the Master Diver rating.  You just need a dive center to verify those certifications for you.  Bonus:  once you do this you will have a free digital card for that specialty or certification for life in your free MySSI App. The app is a free log book too.
