General Dive Travel Information
Deposits and Payments
Securing a spot on a trip begins with getting Dive Travel Services a check deposit. See individual trip descriptions for details on payment schedules. We take checks and cashiers checks only so to avoid the 3% credit card fee, which can be considerable with dive travel. Also, money spent on a trip in non refundable. Dive Travel Services forwards payments to resorts and operators based on these commitments. This is why travel insurance is so highly recommended. Checks are made to Dive Travel Service, PO Box 30108, Honolulu HI 96820.
Information gathering
Some trips will involve a local flight arranged by the resort, so we will need your DOB, passport number, passport expiration date, and full name. Generally, a passport should be valid for at least six months after the last date of planned travel. Be sure to check this! We also collect emergency contact information, general contact information, food allergy or dietary requirements, and certification level. Different operators require different information, but this is standard. We will also collect your flight information into and out of the country. For active duty folks you can find the resort contact information inside the specific trip descriptions if you need to file leave paperwork.
Travel Insurance
This is a really really good idea. It protects you from things like getting sick right before a trip, or the liveaboard being destroyed in a hurricane. We have a had folks with late baggage that have had rental fees covered by trip insurance, or missed connections with hotels and food covered. One time in the Philippines at typhoon hit on the day we were set to leave and those with trip insurance were covered for the extra days on the island. Just be aware that if something happens and you can’t make a trip last minute, any refund from the resort last minute for any reason is highly unlikely.
