Do I need a scuba certification to sign up?

No!  This course is open to everyone interested in the ocean.  The Marine Ecology course is two parts, the digital learning portion from SSI in course format and our Zoom event with marine biologist, Emily Wilson.  The Zoom event on March 20th at 9:00am (HST) will expand on the course material to cover the uniqueness of our Hawaiian waters.  Can’t make the set call time?  The event will be recorded and you will be sent a link. The online coursework is available as soon as you sign up.

What is in the Marine Ecology course?

In the SSI Marine Ecology course you study how organisms interact with each other and their environment, the flow of energy through communities, and the link between ocean ecosystems.

Our ocean’s hold over 96% of all Earth’s water, yet only 5% of our oceans have been explored. If you are intrigued by all of the known and diverse marine ecosystems, their unique characteristics, and the wide range of biodiversity living within them, then this course will interest you!

Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins!

SSI offers a fully online Marine Ecology program, including in-depth digital learning and accredited certification. On March 20th marine biologist, Emily Wilson, will host a talk all about our Hawaiian archipelago. There will be a 15 min Q&A session at the end. You will find the Zoom link online on our Facebook & Instagram pages and the event will be recorded for anyone who cannot attend. Although the live session is not required for the certification, we welcome you to come with budding ocean enthusiasm!
