Molokai All Day Dive Trip

This trip is not for the first time diver in Hawaii!  You club members and others that have been around for a while know how rough the ocean can get, and it can get pretty rough in the Kaiwi channel between Oahu and Molokai.   That being the case there is some awesome diving over there.  We are taking only pictures and leaving only bubbles, where we actually dive will be a little bit up to the weather.

This trip meets at the dive shop at 4:30am for a departure promptly after arrival. Due to COVID restrictions we only have 12 spots available, so as usual, please sign up early to avoid disappointment!  The trip to Molokai is 2-3 hours on the way over because we are going into the swell.  If the weather is gentle, we will head up the north coast for some diving, but in most cases, we will be diving on the west coast.  When the weather is over 15 knots of wind, this trip gets converted to a local three tanker and you get refunded the difference (but you are obligated to the diving day).  The last day to cancel is 5 days before the trip.  This trip will fill up, and if you are on it you will be one of a handful of people to dive Molokai commercially this year.  We do it rarely, and we are the only ones doing it.  We will be back around sunset the same day.

The trip cost is $395, but the $45 club discount applies, and another $20 off for own gear, so club members will be paying $330 for the trip.  Non club members will need to go through a short interview process to make sure you are fully aware of the advanced dive conditions.  There will be three dives, nitrox is optional but highly recommend.  If you are a diver whose really good on air, you may want to bring a surface marker (SMB) as there may be an opportunity to extend your dives beyond an hour.  We don’t normally do that, but we don’t normally go to Molokai either.

If you are prone to seasickness, you may want to think about doing a different dive trip.  Or, at the very least consider significant medication.  If it sounds like I’m trying to talk you out of going, I am.  If you aren’t sure you should be going on this trip, you probably shouldn’t be going on this trip.  Heavy seas, all drift dives, advanced conditions, full day with no options off the boat.  It is just not a good place for someone that doesn’t handle open ocean well.  So now that I’ve done my best to scare you off, if you do make it, there are some pretty amazing dives to be done.  And there are not many people that are going to be diving Molokai this year off a commercial boat.  It’s a pretty cool adventure.
