Raja Ampat, Ambon, and Snorkel with Whales Expedition Oct 5-16th 2026

snorkel with whales in indonesiaSnorkel with Whales and dive from Raja Ampat to Ambon

Bucket list alert!  Does anybody want to combine a dive trip in Raja Ampat with a snorkel with whales? sperm or killer?  How about we finish up in Ambon for some of their famous macro diving?  As I’m writing this I already have verbal commitments for 4 of the 8 cabins on one trip and 3 or 8 on the second.  I suspect that this trip might sell out this year.  Which is kinda silly since it is 2026.  But, I booked this trip as soon as I heard about it, we have both trips for the year 2026. The month of October is the only month they run it because that is when the whales are there!  As a bonus, we got 2025 rates.

$6400 per person  12 days/11 nights.  First trip is Raja Ampat-whale snorkel-Ambon Oct 5th to 16th, second is Ambon-whale snorkel-Raja Ampat Oct 19th to 30th

Availability Update 12/20/2025: one cabin left

So many of you that dive with us do one or two trips a year (some of you do more).  In 2026, this is the one you want to do.  It is a longer liveaboard and a little bit more money because of that.  So get out your calendar (your digital one because this is so far out) and mark it down.  Somebody is going to be left out.  Make sure you let me know if you are planning on it, and get an email back from me that you have a cabin.  Better yet, write a small check $500 and make sure you are on this list.  You don’t want to miss the snorkel with whales.

The first trip gets on the Pindito on the 5th of October in Sorong, which is a short flight from Bali.  It ends in Ambon, also a short flight to Bali.  It is probably going to be best to book your own flights into Bali and let our local agent handle internal flights.  There are 3 days in between trips in Ambon.  Spice Island Divers is in Ambon.  You might want to arrive early or stay late and do some diving with them or stay at their hotel.

Lots more details to follow.

snorkel with killer whales in indonesiaHow many days will we snorkel with whales?

That is up to us.  Probably 2-3 dyas.  It is usually reef dives in the morning and followingthe pods in the afternoon.  We will get close to the whales on small boats, and roll off the side to spend time in the water with snorkel and camera.  When the whales move on, repeat.  Probably do this all afternoon.  Big boat nearby, so keep going or quite when you want.  Sometimes an evening reef dive.  The whale aggregations are not particularly close to either Raja Ampat or Ambon, and we are definately doing some diving at each of those places, so that leaves the middle of the trip.  I would imagine how much time we spend with the whales will depend on the ecounters we have on the first couple of days trying.  There will be a cetacean expert on board.
