Octopus, Monk Seal..Night Dives Never Disappoint!
The sunset was beautiful as we made our way to the dive site. Today we made the choice to go to Turtle Canyon. We had several first time Night divers on the boat and they were all nervous and excited about this new part of diving. After the wonderful sunset in the west we descended on our dive site. It still had a bit of a current, moon was full. This proved to be no problem for our divers. We made our way west into the current looking at all the many eels out hunting, the reef fish doing their change of the guard. Dusk is such a nice time to dive, getting to experience a changing of the guard, so to speak. After our swim west we drifted back to our mooring spot on the current. It was such a nice relaxing dive.
After some warm drinks, provided by the crew, we started thinking about our next dive. The tanks all get switched over and the dive brief was given. No it was totally dark outside with the exception of that huge moon out. This dive, although on the same dive site, was completely different from the first. We all explored the area slowly looking in all the darkened areas. At the end of our dive we found a very cute little octopus which was friendly with everyone. Then as we were making our way back to the line what did we see???? Yes Yes Yes…..Monk Seal!!!! Super exciting for the whole group. It swam about us for the last part of the dive, probably hunting in our lights….maybe just interested what were were doing there. There was lots of squeals of excitement and boy the chatter when we got to see it!!!! Little shout out to Ole, have fun on your trip around the world. We will miss!
