Excellent Dives on LCU and Fantasy Reef 11/7

The skies were grey and the rain was falling but that did not put a damper on these divers day!  By the time we made it to the LCU the sky was bluing and the divers were ready.  There was a little chop in the top but we were greeted with just a slight current and over 100 foot of viz. This dive was filled with students training and divers just getting to explore.  Much of the marine life we loved was there today including a white tip reef shark, eagle rays and millions of reef fish.

We got to celebrate a birthday on the boat today which is always a good time.  Fantasy reef was our next location.  As always there were to many turtles to count and today they seemed very interested in us.  Many eels, nudi’s and again loads of fish.  There was very little current for our drift dive which gave us loads of times to explore all the reef.  The students completed their tasks and enjoyed the dives.  What a great day.

This morning we spent our time underwater at Baby Barge (90ft) and our drift dive at Keanu Reef (68ft). With over 100ft of viz at both sites the beautiful blue water gave opportunities to see the hawaiian green sea turtle, eels, and a rare sight of the tiny leaf scorion fish. A great day indeed.

FANTASY REEF IS A REAL TURTLE DIVE ! nov 2

who doesn’t love turtles, and the bigger they are, the more we love them!  and our 2nd dive today was a drift of spectacular Fantasy Reef, home of the giant Hawaii green sea turtle.  If I was ever going to guarantee anything on a dive out here on Oahu’s south shore, it would be that “we will see huge green sea turtles at Fantasy!”  and i would always be right, because I’ve never not seen them there.  on some dives we may see up to 15, and they seem to enjoy cruising around when divers are in their neighborhood!!  it was just a fantastic dive, as we also saw a frogfish, octopus, and a whitetip shark, as well as beautiful coral and loads of reef fish!  first dive was baby barge, and we had a blast exploring the wreck and all the marine life surrounding it!  thanks to all for safe diving,  larry, captain joe

PADI’s Newest Dive Master! Nov 1, 2015

I am pleased to present the newest PADI Dive Master from Island Divers, Stephen!  He worked very hard to achieve this goal and very proud as an Instructor to welcome him into the professional dive community.  Listening to all of the instructors at our shop, soaking in all we had to offer.  Stephen, through everything showed he had what it takes to be here.

He is now moving on to our HSU (Honolulu Scuba University) program to become an instructor and well all wish him the best.

OUTSTANDING Job Stephen you have made your instructor very proud!

3 Tanker Bliss on LCU, Baby Barge and Fantasy Reef! 11/1/15

Everyone arrived early excited for the dives on this sunny Sunday morning.  Full of anticipation about the dives today we even got to leave the dock a little early.  The water was calm and there was no wind as we started the trip.  LCU was the first dive site we went in on.  Hoping for a shark or two today.  Only a couple of the divers got to see the random shark on the dive but all the rest were excited to explore the wreck with 100+ viz and NO Current.  What a great dive.

Two Sharks at the Shark Cave on Baby Barge!

Next dive was at Baby Barge….again hopeful for sharks and we figured the Shark Cave was our best bet.  It is located about a 100 yards from the mooring at Baby Barge.  We got to see what we were looking for.  We had lots of divers with cameras today and they were not disappointed at our choice of dive sites.  The Barge and all the reef around were full of activity and live.  Lots of reef life, turtles, eels.  No one wanted to come up.

Capt. Joe and Sophia had a great set out for us when we returned from the dive of sandwiches, chips, apples, brie and walnuts.  It was amazing for the hungry divers.  We then took a break and briefed for next dive.  Our drift dive was at Fantasy Reef.  Turtles waiting for us at the drop site and all through the reef.  We also got another great shot of a good sized White Tip Reef shark at the swim thru.  He put on quite a show for us swimming right towards us then back…then came back.  Swam around while everyone made their way through.  The current was very light so our photographers got plenty of time to take shots.  This was a great day on the Sea Fox and with Island Divers!  One of the highlights of the day is DMC Steven completed his class and is now the newest DM with PADI.  We are all so proud of him!!  GREAT JOB!

Dive Sites:  LCU Max depth 90 feet, Viz 100+, Baby Barge max depth 85 feet, viz 100 feet, Fantasy Reef max depth 55 feet viz 90 feet.
