SCUBA DIVING SPITTING CAVE !! 27 dec

Spitting cave was our third dive today, and it was a fitting climax to a spectacular day of diving. we began our scuba journey by mooring up the Sea Fox to the Kahala Barge.  at 90 feet in the sand, it is a wreck made for swimming through, with large rectangles cut in the deck for light and entrance, giving us excellent visibility within the old barge.  Except for the black room!  which is a blast to see, and that you can only do with a flashlight.  this room often houses various creatures, including sharks, large jacks (ulua in hawaiin), turtles, as well as various mollusks and huge crabs!  our 2nd dive was Fantasy Reef, and we saw over 10 large green Hawaiin sea turtles.  they love this spot, as the volcanic topography of overhangs, caves, and swim-throughs, offers multiple hiding spots for these resting creatures!  3rd dive was a drift of Spitting Cave, a spectacular wall, which wows divers from all over the world.  other-worldly topography of canyons and caves, marine life from tiny to huge, including monk seals, rays, sharks, turtles, frog fish, octopus, and large shoals of reef fish create mind blowing tour along this incredible wall.  thanks to all for safe diving,  larry, mary, kendal

Merry Christmas Eve Morning

Our divers on this wonderful morning lead us out to Kahala Barge(95ft) and the drift of Sea Cave(50ft).  It was a great way to kick off the holiday and we’re happy to provide a couple of exceptional dives for our visiting customers. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. LRG_DSC02206LRG_DSC02213LRG_DSC02216LRG_DSC02245LRG_DSC02267LRG_DSC02278LRG_DSC02286LRG_DSC02235LRG_DSC02295

DIVING ON A WWII LANDING CRAFT! 21 dec

we call it the LCU for short, and it stands for Landing Craft Unit.  and it also stands for Landing Craft Upsidedown!  when this ship was purposely sunk to create an artificial reef, it flipped upside down.  Due to its slightly concave shape, and the rear wheelhouse this upside-down wreck has a very cool aspect for us divers.  and that is there is a marvelous space underneath the wreck that is habitually occupied by white tip sharks.  this is often where we choose to dive, when our divers want to see sharks!  after checking out the sharks underneath, we often see small groups of eagle rays circumnavigating the wreck.  so – a great dive site for some cool big stuff!  today we saw sharks and eagle rays, plus moray eels, and a large barracuda!  great dive.  2nd jump was a drift of Spitting Cave, and it was spectacular!  more sharks, huge turtles, octopus, scorpion fish, and a giant sponge crab appeared as we drifted the beautiful lava formations shaped by the ocean!  another home run!  thanks to all for safe diving!  larry, kendal

Two Wrecks of Fun

For our dives today we decided to hit two different wrecks on the morning. The first wreck was the Corsair at 107ft and the second was Kahala Barge at 95ft.

The Corsair is a WWII Navy fighter plane that ran out of gas during a training mission and is the only natural wreck in the area.LRG_DSC02090LRG_DSC02087

Our second site is the Kahala Barge, the largest wreck of the area and one that provides our divers a great opportunity to enter swim throughs inside the wreck.LRG_DSC02109LRG_DSC02115LRG_DSC02112

Thank you to all the costumers and divers who came out with us today.LRG_DSC02136

Monday Afternoon Had Everything!!

A little windy for our afternoon but the diving was perfect.  Today we had certified divers, PADI Discover Scuba Divers, Open Water students and Advanced Open Water Students on the boat.  What a great day for all of us.  First dive was at Koko Craters and what sights we got to see there.  Octopus, Turtles, Eels and thousands of reef fish.  It was super clear and perfect under the water.  Second dive was at Turtle Canyon and again a great dive.  DSD’s were wide eyed as the looked at all the sights.  Students getting things checked off towards their current certification levels and the Certs just getting a nice relaxing afternoon dive.

Dive Sites:  Koko craters, max depth 40 feet  Turtle Canyon, max depth 40 feet.  Viz on both 100 feet

Dive Crew:  Capt. Kendal, Dive Instructors Mary, Kevin, Jim, and Peter. boat crew Jen.

A Windy Saturday

With less than ideal surface conditions facing us today we charged out determined to have great dives and great dives we did have. Out first site was the drift at Spitting Caves (50ft) where we encountered Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, White tip reef sharks, Frog fish, and a variety of eels. The second site was Anglers Reef (50ft) where eels and a very playful octopus grabbed a mojority of our divers attention.  LRG_DSC01986 Read more

100 Foot Viz is how we do Wednesday AM Dives!

The water was calm and the sun was shining for our advanced dives this morning.  Checking in at the Corsair first.  The 1948 downed aircraft is still in good condition for being down there for over 65 years!  Hardly any current and lots of life on the wreck.  Got to see the huge yellow margined moray eels we call Bertha and the white margined moray I only see there.   The garden eels were out doing their rhythmic dance making everyone happy.

Fantasy Reef was just that a day, a fish and turtle fantasy.  Everywhere you looked there was something….when we first dropped in a friendly little octopus came out to play.

We had some turtles follow us on our dives which is always fun.  They are so used to us they often join our dives for a little while.  The ones today that hung out seemed to be rather animated.

Open water courses galore!

Dec15To start off our week of diving, we went to Koko Craters (34ft) and Angler’s Reef (44ft). Visibility was great! Anil and Luca went on their first open water dives, while Corey finished up his course. We saw a few eels swimming about and were joined by turtles at both sites! It was a great day to be out and under the water!

DIVING THE CORSAIR AIRPLANE

always a special dive, as pilots and aircraft aficionados from around the world come all the way to Oahu, Hawaii, to dive this site.  at 107 feet of depth sits this WWII fighter plane.  the Corsair is a propeller driven craft, and that propeller is still intact and attached.  the fuselage is deteriorating, but the windshield and tail are also still attached.  one wing lies in the sand next to it.  the craft is surrounded by a sandy bottom, teaming with garden eels, as well as schools of various reef fish.  we also see eels, octopus, rays, and occasional sharks cruising.  a marvelous dive.  Fantasy reef was our 2nd jump, and we drifted for 50 minutes, spotting sharks, turtles, rays, frogfish, and beautiful topography!  thanks to all for safe diving,  larry, ryan, captain joe
