Rainbows and Crystal Clear Waters

Friday morning was a gorgeous day on the water in Oahu! With a bright rainbow hanging over the island to start the morning I knew it was going to be a good one. The first dive site we headed to was LCU. With visibility of 150+ feet we couldn’t wait to get in the water. Swimming around the upside-down landing craft we were greeted by 9 spotted eagle rays! 9! So awesome! A sea turtle also cruised by to say hello. We found a couple big moray eels underneath the cement blocks surrounding the wreck. After a nice 30 minute dive to 85 feet we headed back up to the boat. For second dive we headed over to the wall to do Sea Cave! An amazing dive site with a big cave that you can swim in and around before drifting along the wall. Residents inside the cave this particular day included a couple sea turtles, many many many nudibranches, and a white tip reef shark! We spotted a couple more moray eels along the wall while drifting before headed back up. Over all it was an awesome day of diving with great conditions and a fun group of divers. YOU ARE NOW ENTERING THE SHARK ZONE! 17 march

as you may have guessed, it was a great day for shark encounters, as we saw them up close and personal on both our dives today! these are white tip reef sharks, the most common shark in Hawaiin waters. but as most divers and nature lovers know, sharks are in danger from human depredation, and these whitetips are no exception. while they are not caught and slaughtered for their fins here in Hawaii, I still see too many sharks and turtles with hook and metal leaders in the mouths and/or fins.  sad to see, because they fit so perfectly into their environment, and are always thrilling to see, particular when swimming in their distinctive waggling style.  first stop was baby barge, when there was a shark and a huge turtle sharing space.  great dive, lots of reef fish, more turtles, plus octopus, always a crowd favorite.  2nd jump was a drift of spitting cave, and it was unbelievable!  300 foot visibility!!  light blue, crystal clear water!  spectacular.  more sharks, more turtles, eels everywhere, frog fish, scorpion fish, and more.  great day, lots of smiles on the boat!  larry, sarah, imran, kendal

Massive Moray Eels at Anglers Reef!

Today was a windy but lovely day out on the water in Hawaii. We had a small group of four divers on the sea fox this afternoon. One student finishing up his open water certification course and three certified divers. The first dive site we went to was Anglers Reef. With a maximum depth of 45 feet we had a nice long 40 minute dive. There were lots of cute little reef fish swimming with us the whole dive. We also found quite a few moray eels, two of which were the giant yellow margin morays! It was a great dive with great visibility! For our second dive we headed over to Koko craters to hang out with the sea turtles! We swam with somewhere around 10 turtles this afternoon at koko craters! We also saw a porcupine puffer fish! So cute! And of course the blue dragon nudibranches were around, cool little guys. Overall it was a great day of diving with some great divers. Congratulations to Amanda and Spencer on their one year anniversary! And of course congrats to Charles for completing his PADI Open Water Certification! Welcome to the club! See you out on the boat again soon!

It was a Corsair Kind of Day! Mar 09

Our Divers came to dive today.  Do you think a little blustery conditions would scare them away?  I think Not!  We packed up the dive boat and made our way to the beautiful Corsair Wreck.  This is a plane that went down in 1948 on a training mission and is still there today!  That is almost 70 years laying at the bottom of the sea and still in pretty good condition.  We are ever so lucky to have such a historic dive site to dive.  The current was a bit challenging but our divers made this a great dive day.  We are lucky to have such a great line system to get all the way down on the wreck without having to use much air fighting current.  The viz was fantastic today at this wreck and we were greeted by to Scorpian Leaf fish by the prop and a big Octopus in the wing, which I am pretty sure was sitting on eggs.  There were fish swarming around the wreck which made it like we were in an aquarium.

We made our way to Angler’s reef for our second diver.  Making the choice to go a little closer in to have the protection of the bay.  Lots of eels on the reef today and the cuties little wrasse around.  We had a nice long dive and everyone was happy at the completion.  Still a little windy out we all cuddled up in the cabin for the ride home.  Talked about the dives and what we saw.  Had hot minty towels to freshen up with and lots of laughs.

WINDS ARE DOWN? TURN LEFT TOWARDS HANAUMA BAY ! 3 march

we dive out of Hawaii Kai, south shore Oahu, and when the regular trades are down, or mild, we have an option most dive companies on Oahu do not!  and that is the incredible number of dive sites on the wall outside of world famous Marine Park, Hanauma Bay!  we have at least 5 different dive sites there, and they all offer something unique.  today we did Palea Point, the eastern tip of the bay.  dropping in for a drift going east to west, we start out with small wall and huge bolder piles. cruising east, we see a huge garden of colorful hard corals, fronting a deep canyon.  moving along we encounter huge, dramatic walls, beautifully cut and shaped by the ocean over centuries, containing small caves, home to sharks and turtles.  throughout the dive there are large schools of various reef fish surrounding us, and as we drift along we reach the point of the bay, and gaze out into the deep blue, looking for those whales that sing so loudly!  thanks to all for safe diving!  larry, alex, and admiral kendal

A Great Day of Diving! Mar 3

Our first stop on this sunny afternoon was Koko Craters. The visibility was great and the current was very light. On board today we had Fabian who was trying diving for the first time, Jacey who was completing her open water course, and Chris who had just finished his Nitrox course on the morning charter. Koko Craters had a great amount of marine life: tons of turtles, beautiful morays, a pair of nudibranchs,  and schools of fish. We were even lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins swim by on our surface interval!

We got a special treat for our second dive, as conditions allowed us to visit Hawaii Loa (a site we aren’t able to get out to often). We had an amazing dive there! We found nudibranchs, eels, a beautiful leaf scorpionfish, and a baby Hawaiian Green sea turtle! Everybody did so well today and had a fantastic time!

WHALES CELEBRATE LEAP DAY !! 28 feb

well, the whales were a day early, but in reality the whale leaping has been big these last two weeks!  of course we call it breaching, but it could just as well have been leaping!  seems that the recently born calves are growing big and strong, as have begun breaching.  we call that a ‘baby breach.’  in any case, we have had a blast on our surface intervals lately!  our first stop was LANDING CRAFT UTILITY, or the LCU, with that U standing for upside-down, which is what happened when this wreck sunk!  worked our well, because the whiteptip sharks like to hangout underneath!  2nd jump was Fantasy Reef, always colorful, and packed with marine life- huge turtles, more sharks, octopus, lots of eels, and loads of reef fish!  on our way over to Spitting Cave for our drift, we saw tons of whale activity including breaches big and small!  spitting was excellent as usual, offering us beautiful topography, and loads of marine life, including more sharks, turtles, eels, and octopus. thanks to all for diving safe,  larry, matt n., cap. joe
