Open Water Diving Extraordinaire 3/21/2014
We began our day with pre dive preparation on the dock, everyone setting up gear and double checking the function of the gear. We got underway at 12:45, briefing skills and site plan on the way out to our first site Koko Craters a great site for the open water training. Once we arrived I jumped in to tie off the boat when I came back on everyone was all geared up and buddy checks done so we got right in the water at 13:00. We did a fabulous first dive starting out at Little Buddha and making it all the way to Back crater enjoying the company of sleepy one of the seven dwarfs. Our open water divers were some of the most comfortable and efficient divers I have had the pleasure of diving with, thank you for that. Performing skills with ease of that of an advanced diver, after 30 minutes of exploring the crater and doing skills we ended our first dive. After debriefing and congratulating the divers accomplishments we made our way to Anglers’ where we did a current check and determined the current was too strong to tie up. I decided that all the divers were comfortable enough to drift the site, once everyone was ready and buddy checks were done. We were dropped on the far west end of Anglers’ drifting the entire reef in 30 minutes, with the pleasure of a mass yellow margin moray and some extremely colorful cushion stars. Congratulations to PADI’s newest open water diver Phil and to Carl who did his first dives in the open ocean. After inflating my surface marker buoy we did our 3 minute safety stop and then ascended together for the amazing Captain Joe and fresh crew Erika to pick us up as one big group. Thanks for keeping us safe Joe and Erika, and thank you for following my briefings to the smallest details gentleman, it was a pleasure diving with you all today and I hope you come back again. Aloha.
